Dolphins re-signed CB Will Allen to a one-year contract.
Allen was released at final cuts, but the Dolphins’ lack of cornerback depth was exposed Monday when both Sean Smith and Vontae Davis left with cramps. Miami doesn’t have to guarantee Allen’s contract anymore, and they released an ineffective Benny Sapp on Tuesday.

Patriots signed CB Will Allen to a one-year contract.
The Pats also showed interest in Allen last September before he re-signed in Miami. The former Giants first-rounder ended up playing nearly 60 percent of the snaps with the Dolphins last season, recording 43 tackles. Turning 34 in August, Allen won’t be guaranteed a roster spot in New England.

Patriots placed CB Will Allen on injured reserve, ending his season.
Allen suited up for New England’s first two preseason games, but suffered an undisclosed injury against the Bucs on Friday. This will be the second time in three seasons Allen has missed the entire year, putting his career in doubt at the age of 34.

Troy Polamalu (calf) recorded two tackles in his Week 13 return to action.
Polamalu was eased back in after missing seven straight games, splitting time with Will Allen. Most importantly, he emerged from the win over the Ravens setback-free. Look for Polamalu’s snaps to get a major bump against the Chargers next week.

Dolphins CB Will Allen says he is willing to move to free safety if the team wants him to switch positions.
The Dolphins’ starting lineup at is set at cornerback (Vontae Davis, Sean Smith), so kicking “inside” could give Allen his best chance to start. Miami’s current FS options are Chris Clemons and Tyrone Culver. Allen also says he’s “right where I need to be” in his recovery from a torn ACL.

The Dolphins intend to keep Will Allen at cornerback, despite speculation that he might move to free safety.
The Fins continue to work Chris Clemons as the starting free safety. Allen is expected to stay put because the Dolphins frequently employ three-corner packages. He’ll be the nickel back behind Sean Smith and Vontae Davis.

Third-round rookie J.J. Wilcox will start at free safety for the Cowboys against the Rams on Sunday.
Will Allen played all 132 snaps at free safety the first two weeks. According to Pro Football Focus, he’s allowed seven catches for 163 yards and two touchdowns in his coverage. Wilcox is extremely raw and has played just six snaps this season. He can’t be any worse than Allen. Jared Cook could be in for a monster day over the deep middle. Cook is our No. 6 tight end this week.

Coach Tom Coughlin said yesterday that CB Will Allen is still a starter.
''Will Allen is the starting corner, O.K.?’' Coughlin said. Allen was benched during the second half of Monday’s game.
