Troy S Will Sunderland has accepted an invitation to play in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.
Sunderland (6'4/196), a first-team all-Sun Belt selection, made the most of his second chance after being suspended for the entire 2017 season while a member of the Oklahoma program. This season the senior defensive back accounted for 38 total tackles (2.0 for loss), four interceptions and four pass breakups. Sunderland has good size for a corner, and he was also used at the hybrid “spear” position in Troy’s defensive scheme. He’ll have the opportunity to show the NFL scouts and decision-makers what he can do next month in Pasadena.
  • Oklahoma indefinitely suspended junior S Will Sunderland for a misdemenor charge of concealing stolen property.
Sunderland only played 159 defensive snaps for the Sooners last season, but a larger role was potentially there heading into the 2017 season. The Sooners already lacked depth at the position, so a player like Will Johnson might shift from linebacker to safety in order to fill in the gaps.
  • Updating a previous item, Oklahoma junior S Will Sunderland is charged with selling two gaming consoles plus games from a residence hall for student-athletes.
Sunderland is not charged with stealing the items. He sold them on March 15 and was charged on June 15. He was suspended immediately.
  • Oklahoma junior S Will Sunderland was charged with felony burglary on Wednesday.
Sunderland is alleged to have stolen a Playstation 4, controllers and games from a dorm room housing Sooner baseball players and then selling them to an Oklahoma City business. He was originally charged with a misdemeanor for selling the electronics. Oklahoma has placed Sunderland on indefinite suspension.
  • Oklahoma junior S Will Sunderland turned himself in on Tuesday for a felony second-degree burglary charge.
He was released after posting a bond of $5,000. Sunderland is alleged to have stolen a PlayStation 4, controllers and games from a dorm room housing Sooner baseball players, and then selling them to an Oklahoma City business. He previously turned himself in on a misdemeanor charge for possession of stolen property. Sunderland remains suspended from the Sooners until his legal status clears up.
  • Oklahoma senior S Will Sunderland transferred to Troy.
Presumably, Sunderland transferred as a graduate and will be eligible to play immediately for the Trojans this upcoming season, but that was not specified in his Twitter announcement of the move. The 6-foot-2, 191-pounder did not play during the 2017 campaign following his being arrested in June on a second-degree burglary charge after allegedly stealing a PlayStation and related games/controllers from a Sooners dormitory. That case remains unresolved -- Sunderland is next scheduled to appear in court for his preliminary hearing on Feb. 6. During his career at Oklahoma, the former four-star safety registered 18 tackles and an interception.
