Tina Charles had her fourth double-double of the season during Tuesday night’s 85-77 loss to Fever amassing 21 points (7-of-19 FGs, 7-of-9 FTs), 11 rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block in 34 minutes of play.
Charles fueled the Sun in a hard-fought loss to the Fever. While her shot diet wasn’t the most efficient, she scored the basketball in a variety of places. She scored getting advantageous positioning in the paint, she hit mid-range jumpers in between the low and high posts and around the nail. Her teammates in Bria Hartley, Jacy Sheldon and Olivia Nelson-Ododa found her right at her sweet spots. Also Charles hauled down over 27 percent of her team’s total rebounds, successfully using her length and strength to box out the Fever’s front court in Aliyah Boston, Natasha Howard and Damiris Dantas. When the Fever took quick shots and didn’t crash the glass, Charles was often there to secure the ball. The veteran also was a secondary facilitator, racking up three assists on a backdoor cut to rookie Leïla Lacan, in transition to Lindsay Allen and on a high-low pass to rookie Aneesah Morrow.
