Mathisen

Mathisen signed a minor league deal with the Giants last year and has gotten into 32 games in the majors over the last three years. The 28-year-old former second-round pick was hitting just .183/.301/.400 with seven homers and 23 RBI in 146 plate appearances this season in San Francisco’s minor-league system.

Mathisen’s homer was the first of the spring, and it came off Frank Duncan in the second inning. The 27-year-old is organizational depth for the Giants, and looks to to be headed to Triple-A to begin 2022.

Mathisen was just released by the Mariners late last week before quickly latching on with the Giants. This is his fourth organization of the season. The 27-year-old will give the club some upper-level infield depth.

Mathisen was removed from the 40-man roster last month and is now out of the organization altogether. He’s posted just a .657 OPS at the Triple-A level this season.

Mathisen was designated for assignment by Seattle last week and ultimately passed through waivers unclaimed. He’ll remain with the organization as minor league depth.

The move was made to free up a spot on the 40-man roster for Ryan Weber, who was claimed off of waivers on Friday. There’s a decent chance that Mathisen will pass through waivers unclaimed and continue to provide minor league depth for the M’s.

The 27-year-old was designated for assignment by Tampa Bay on Tuesday to clear out a spot for top overall prospect Wander Franco. Mathisen is a career .159/.298/.290 hitter in 32 major league games.

The move comes with Wander Franco being added to the 40-man roster in advance of his major league debut Tuesday. Mathisen was just acquired from the Diamondbacks last month, but now he could be on the move once again.

Mathisen had been designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks earlier in the week. He’ll report to Triple-A Durham where he’ll add organizational depth for the Rays.

Mathisen was just 5-for-42 at the plate at the major league level before being optioned to Triple-A on May 7.
