Darboh

Darboh spent 2020 on the Steelers and Panthers’ practice squads. The 27-year-old special teamer hasn’t appeared in a game since 2017.

The Steelers released WR Tevin Jones in a corresponding roster move. Darboh isn’t expected to be anything more than a contributor on special teams.

Darboh wasn’t able to crack the Seahawks roster at the beginning of this season due to various injuries, but he’ll get another chance in Tampa Bay. Darboh will be a special teamer for the Bucs.

It’s the second-straight year Darboh has been waived. Elderly when he entered the league as a 23-year-old rookie two years ago, Darboh has failed to show any development. The fact that he couldn’t crack a receiver corps this thin tells you all you need to know about his NFL future.

There’s no word on if he’s injured or not, but that has been the story of his career so far. After spending all of 2018 on injured reserve, Darboh needs to have a nice summer to make the 53-man roster, especially with the Seahawks adding three receivers in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Darboh missed the entire 2018 after being placed on injured reserve with a knee injury, and Carroll now wants Darboh to go compete for a job this offseason. Doug Baldwin’s retirement opens up targets, but the Seahawks added three receivers in the draft, minimizing Darboh’s chances.

Darboh was waived at final cuts and spent two days with the Patriots before getting released with a failed physical. He needs knee surgery and will revert back to Seattle. A third-rounder last year, Darboh played just 191 snaps as a rookie. He’ll spend all of 2018 on IR.

Darboh (6’2/214) made 28 starts as a Wolverine, compiling a career receiving line of 151-2,062-14 (13.7 YPR) and earning second-team All-Big Ten as a fifth-year senior. While Darboh offers above-average size and long arms (32 5/8"), his game lacks an explosive element despite 4.45 timed speed, and he showed a tendency to let passes into his body on college tape, failing to secure them with his hands. A solid college player lacking any standout traits, Darboh’s NFL ceiling is likely in the Terrance Williams range.

Productive at Michigan, Darboh is old for a prospect (23), and doesn’t play as fast as his 4.45 speed. He can be a body catcher. It’s also a crowded receiver corps in Seattle. Darboh’s game was greater than the sum of its parts in the Big Ten, but it could be a while before he makes an NFL impact.

Darboh took a huge hit to the helmet while playing with the back end of the first-team offense. We don’t expect to see him for the remainder of the night.
