Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that the Nationals have some interest in free agent outfielders Austin Jackson and Denard Span.
Heyman reports that the Nationals are more likely to fill the Michael Taylor (hip, knee) injury internally, as Taylor is likely to be “only” out for about a month. That being said, they’re at least considering external options. We’ve heard talk about the Nationals having interest in Span before, but Jackson may make more sense if they’re looking for someone to stick in center.

Austin Jackson’s RBI-double in the bottom of the 13th inning produced the only run of a 1-0 win over the Marlins on Saturday.
Michael Conforto led off the bottom half of the 13th inning with a single and moved to second on a Jack Reinheimer walk. Jackson then thumped a double in the gap for the walk-off victory. The part-time outfielder is slashing .247/.301/.328 with three homers and 32 RBI in 372 plate appearances for the Giants and Mets this year. He hasn’t been useful in fantasy leagues for the last several seasons.

Making his first start in three days, Austin Jackson went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts Tuesday.
Jackson is 9-for-66 with a 27/2 K/BB ratio in September, so the Mets have curtailed his playing time some, though perhaps not as much as they should have. After all, Jackson is a free agent this winter and he shouldn’t be in the team’s plans for 2019.

Dominic Smith is not in Tuesday’s lineup against the Braves.
Assuming the weather holds out, Jay Bruce will make the start at first base while Austin Jackson is in center field. Smith should still get another couple of starts this final week.

Austin Jackson isn’t in Tuesday’s lineup against the Phillies.
Brandon Nimmo will make the start in center field while Jay Bruce plays right field and Michael Conforto is in left. Dominic Smith is make another start at first base.

Austin Jackson went 3-for-3 with a triple and two walks Sunday for low Single-A Charleston.
The 19-year-old Jackson is batting .256/.342/.357 with 33 steals in 43 attempts. An extremely gifted athlete, he could break through and begin putting up big numbers in the minors in 2007 or 2008.

Alex Avila is not in the Tigers’ starting lineup Wednesday afternoon against the White Sox.
He’ll take a seat with the quick turnaround. Austin Jackson and Jhonny Peralta will also get scheduled days off.

Austin Jackson went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Monday’s Game 2 ALCS loss to the Rangers.
Jackson has now fanned three times in three consecutive games, giving him 14 in 25 postseason at-bats. Equally disappointing, he is hitting 120/.290/.200 during the playoffs. The Tigers need more from their leadoff hitter.

Austin Jackson went 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI in the Tigers’ Game 3 ALCS victory over the Rangers on Tuesday.
This is the performance Tiger fans have been waiting for out of Jackson. The young center fielder had generated little production in the playoffs following a somewhat disappointing sophomore season. Entering the game, he had been 17-for-110 (.155) since September 5. The next couple of games could show whether his three-hit outburst was a mirage or a sign of things to come.

Austin Jackson went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts and a walk Monday against the Phillies.
Jackson is working with a new stance in an effort to cut back on the strikeouts, but it hasn’t helped thus far. He’s batting .242 with 14 strikeouts in 33 at-bats. The Tigers aren’t about to move away from him in center field, but they should consider dropping him to the ninth spot in the lineup if he struggles next month.
