Iowa (-7.5) at Rutgers: O/U 35.0
When Iowa is involved, you can probably guess what the play is.
These teams have met twice and Iowa won both 30-0 and 14-7 in 2019 and 2016.
The Under has hit in three-straight games for Iowa to open the season and two of three for Rutgers. The lone over for Rutgers was a 66-7 win versus FCS Wagner.
This season, Rutgers scored 22 points versus Boston College and 16 on Temple, while Iowa scored 7 points against Iowa and 27 on Nevada. They have both failed to combine for 20 points per game versus FBS opponents thus far.
Iowa’s offense is still terrible even after Spencer Petras threw a season-high 175 yards on Nevada, we can expect some regression there.
Rutgers struggled against Temple and Evan Simon threw for 52 yards, so we are talking about two of the worst quarterbacks in not just the Big Ten, but all of Power 5 football.
The Scarlett Knights defense has not permitted more than 21 points yet, so I like the chances Iowa is kept Under that total on the road in the Big Ten opener for both schools.
The Under is 12-6 in Rutgers’ last 18 games (66.6%) and 11-6 to the Under in Iowa’s last 17 games (64.7%), per NBC’s Edge Finder.
Big Ten matchups were 32-32 to the Under last year (50%), but started out 7-2 to the Under (77.7%) in the first month of the season. The Over is 2-1 in Big Ten conference play this year, but I like this one to go Under the total.
I grabbed the Under at 35.0 at -110 odds and expect this be a 17-14 or 20-10 type of game.
Pick: Under 35 (1u)
