This week, World Golf Hall of Fame member Greg Norman will once again host the QBE Shootout. The three-day event begins Friday, taking place at Tiburón Golf Club at The Ritz-Carlton Resort in Naples, Florida. The 24-player field is divided into 12 two-person teams. For Friday’s first round the players will play a scramble format, followed by a modified alternate shot on Saturday. For Sunday’s final-round, the players will play a four-ball with overall lowest score crowned champion.
Matt Kuchar and Harris English are paired together once again as they look to defend their 2020 title and earn their fifth QBE Shootout title. Last year Kuchar and English won the event in record fashion. Their low score of 179 was good enough for the 54-hole tournament record.
With the defending champs the second favorites at +600, the oddsmakers at PointsBet Sportsbook have Sam Burns and former FedEx Cup winner Billy Horschel as the tournament favorites. While Burns is a debutant, it makes sense for him to be listed as a favorite. He is arguably the hottest player on tour and is currently second in the FedEx Cup standings. He is also paired with Horschel, who has played this event numerous times and is a proven winner on tour.
The lowest odds on the board and probably the most exciting team is Lexi Thompson and Bubba Watson. The two could be worth a flier. The 26-year-old Thompson finished the LPGA season with a few strong performances; earning a top-10 in three of her last five starts. Most notably an eighth placed finish to end the season in the CME Group Tour Championship which is played at Tiburón. She has the experience playing at this course and in this tournament. Paired with Watson, they make an interesting duo who yield a high return should you consider them at +3300.
