Finding the right teaser for Week 8

Drew Lock

We dropped our second teaser of the year last week on the Steelers and Texans. Aaron Rodgers ruined the afternoon with a beatdown of Houston. It happens. We should probably fire another tease this weekend. Rules are rules.

If you’re new around here, a teaser is a bet that allows you to adjust the point spread six points whichever way you choose. You must select a minimum of two bets, but you have to win all the bets in the teaser to cash the ticket.

While some people like to maximize their payout and do four or five-team teasers, your chances of winning get increasingly more difficult with every extra team you add. I’ll stick with the standard two-teamer and tease through the most important numbers in football – 3 and 7.[[ad:athena]]

I wrote earlier this week about how the Chargers have been a cover machine this year. Los Angeles is 5-and-1 ATS and bookmakers are finally catching on. The Bolts are a 3-point favorite this Sunday at Denver, which is an insane overreaction. Remember, they’ve gotten to the window mostly as an underdog. Now they’re laying points on the road.

Three points still isn’t enough for me with the Broncos, so let’s tease!

Take Denver from +3 through the 4, 6, 7 and 8 up to +9. You see what we did there? We just made an Anthony Lynn coached team a 9-point favorite and we’re going to fade him. Also, I love the matchup with defensive savant Vic Fangio scheming for rookie quarterback Justin Herbert. It makes too much sense to me.

My second leg may not be popular, but that’s how I roll. Fresh off an embarrassing performance on Monday night against the Rams, I’m ready to back the Bears. We warned you about backing the public underdog in primetime. Now nobody wants a piece of Chicago this week. That’s not how this racket works. Don’t overreact!

The lookahead number was New Orleans -2.5 and the line has been blasted all the way to -4.5. Some shops are dealing Saints -5. Thing is, the weather is going to be in the low-to-mid 30s with howling winds at Soldier Field. That won’t bode well for 41-year-old quarterback Drew Brees and an offense predicated on the pass.

This is the definition of Bear Weather and when you think about a total that’s already dropped from 46 to 43, we’re getting immense value in what bookmakers believe is going to be an offensive struggle. I’ll gladly take the Bears from +4.5 through 6, 7, 8 and 10 up to +10.5. Now we’re cooking.

Tease the Broncos +9 to the Bears +10.5.
