PL Best Bets: Captain Clutch is the Bet

Harry Kane

Manchester City have been crowned Premier League Champions, and I’m pretty confident they spent over 40 hours drinking and celebrating. The same could be said for Newcastle after they clinched a top-four spot and a spot in next season’s Champions League. There are a few games where I’m steering clear. It will be challenging to track motivation in the ones where the players don’t have much to play for.

It’s almost bittersweet that Sunday is the last matchday of the season. It’s been a long season of gambling, profitable for anyone who has tailed. With one matchday left, we are around the +40 units mark on the season. I have two more Premier League bets—the first I gave out on Bet the Edge and the other below.

Leeds vs Tottenham (Sunday, 11:30 am ET)

Three-way Moneyline: Leeds (+170) | Draw (+280) | Tottenham (+130)

Bet: Harry Kane to score a goal (+115) – FanDuel

Before you take this bet, please note that FanDuel does not void for nonstarters. So, if Harry Kane is excluded from the starting XI but plays later in the game and does not score, it will result in a loss. However, I can’t see a world where Kane doesn’t start, so I am locking him in to score a goal against Leeds before I see the starting lineups.

Leeds enter the final matchday of the season needing a win even to have a chance of fighting off relegation. Knowing that his unit could need to win by multiple goals, I can’t expect Sam Allardyce to have his club sit back and absorb pressure. Allardyce knows the stakes are high. He had Leeds train at Elland Road three times this week to boost their chances of winning. Even if Leeds win, they could still be relegated if Everton beat Bournemouth or Leicester City beat West Ham.

This match should be open from the first kick of the game. Leeds know that scoring multiple goals will be necessary. Defensively, they have issues. They have not kept a clean sheet since their match with Southampton on February 25th. They have conceded multiple goals in seven of their last eight games. It hasn’t mattered if they have been home or away, they have been leaky.

Kane should be one of the benefactors of Leeds’ leaky defense. Harry Kane has scored 28 Premier League goals this season. That number would be good enough for the Golden Boot award in the 2021-22 season. Kane has been scorching hot. He’s scored in four straight matches; since the international break, he’s scored in seven of the nine games.

The last meeting between these two clubs saw seven total goals. Kane scored in that match. With how open this game should be, I’m backing Kane to score a goal (+115).
