Davis

Davis, at 6-foot-2 and 308 pounds, is a former undrafted free agent out of Pitt. The 25-year-old has zero career appearances and is likely just a camp body.

Waived last week, Davis gets another chance at a backup job thanks to rookie Philip Blake’s thumb injury.

Undrafted out of Pitt in 2010, Davis is out of a backup center job now that the Broncos have added former Patriots veteran Dan Koppen.

Signed off the practice squad last September, Davis appeared in seven games. There’s a chance he’ll be back after Week 1.

He’ll be a camp body for the Super Bowl champs. Davis was waived by the Broncos at final cuts last season, and spent the year out of the league. He appeared in seven games for Denver in 2012, and seven for Carolina in 2010.

Davis was a teammate of Jeff Otah’s at Pitt. With QB Brian St. Pierre also expected to be promoted, the Panthers will have to cut two players -- likely from the receiver and running back ranks.

Null will battle Tony Pike for a roster spot in training camp, and the former is likely to be the underdog. Hayden saw far too many snaps last season, starting ten games. The Panthers need lots of help across the defensive line. Harris is a special teams type. Martin was a favorite of the old regime.

Davis is now free to sign with any team. The undrafted rookie out of Pitt will have to pass his baseline tests before getting a sniff.

The former Pitt Panther will eventually be waived with a settlement.

The extent and area of his injury is undisclosed. Davis was in the mix for Carolina’s starting right guard job, a position that will now be left to Max Jean-Gilles, Geoff Hangartner, and uninspiring incumbent Mackenzy Bernadeau.
