Four-star power forward De’Ron Davis commits to Indiana

Indiana landed a major commitment Thursday afternoon, as four-star power forward De’Ron Davis announced that he’ll play his college basketball in Bloomington. Davis, who attends Overland HS in Aurora, Colorado, picked Indiana over Mississippi State and he was the focus of the recruiting efforts of many high-major programs during the spring and summer months.

Davis, ranked 33rd in the Class of 2016 by Rivals.com, joins combo guard Curtis Jones and shooting guard Grant Gelon in Indiana’s 2016 class. Gelon has officially signed his National Letter of Intent, doing so on Wednesday. Davis cited his relationship with head coach Tom Crean (who offered Davis when he was in 8th grade) and the family atmosphere he experienced while on his visit as two of the reasons for his decision.

The Hoosiers will lose graduate student Max Bielfeldt at the end of the 2015-16 season, and the 6-foot-9 Davis has the skill set and physical build needed to contribute immediately. Not only is Davis adept at scoring in the paint, but he’s also able to comfortably step outside and knock down shots to about 18 feet. Among the front court players who will have eligibility remaining in 2016-17 are junior Troy Williams and freshmen O.G. Anunoby, Thomas Bryant and Juwan Morgan.
