The Athletic’s Nate Atkins believes Rams WR CJ Daniels “is a strong fit for a third receiver role after blocking in one of college football’s most physical offenses.”
The statement comes with positives and negatives. On the one hand, Atkins believes the sixth-round rookie is the favorite to start in three-wide receiver sets. On the other hand, Daniels’ fit is due partially to his blocking ability. Getting on the field is the first step toward fantasy-relevance, though. Daniels is a player to watch closely in the coming months.

Rams selected Miami WR CJ Daniels with the No. 197 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Daniels (6’2”/202) is a sixth-year prospect who made stops at Liberty (2020-2023) and LSU (2024) before finishing his career at Miami in 2025. What Daniels lacks in speed (4.58 40-yard dash), he makes up for with creative route running and an impressive ability to pull off contested catches (62.3 percent contested catch rate, per PFF). He’s a good downfield threat and broke out for 55/1,067/10 in 2023 at Liberty, but Daniels’ production fell off in his final two seasons when the level of competition was ramped up while playing for LSU and Miami. Given what we saw from Daniels in his post-Liberty career, it seems unlikely he will look like the player we saw in his breakout season when he’s facing NFL-caliber talent on every snap. He has very limited experience on special teams, returning just three punts in his career and never logging a single snap on the kick/punt coverage units. Despite his sixth-round pedigree, he’ll face an uphill battle to make a 53-man roster in his rookie season.

Sports Illustrated’s John Shipley reports that the Jaguars had a virtual meeting with Miami WR CJ Daniels.
The Jaguars do not use top-30 visits. They prefer to keep their pre-draft information gathering under wraps. Jaguars general manager James Gladstone during his nine-year run with the Rams. Daniels revealed his meeting with the team in a recent interview. He has also met with the Titans, Broncos and Panthers. Daniels posted a 50/557/7 receiving line in his fifth and final college season. Shipley believes Daniels (6'2/202) could provide a big-bodied, physical element that is currently missing in the Jaguars’ wide receiver room. The Jaguars notably tried to sign Seahawks WR Jake Bobo (6'4/207) earlier this offseason.

Liberty redshirt freshman WR CJ Daniels WR caught eight receptions for 118 yards in Saturday’s loss to Army.
This was not a good day for the Liberty offense as a whole. Army was able to keep quarterback Malik Willis one-dimensional for the most part having to rely on the passing attack. Daniels (6'1/195) and Willis had a good connection today as they had a couple of plays for some big yards, but the Army defense was good at making adjustments, putting pressure on Willis, especially on third and fourth downs, and stopping the drives. It’s certainly been a rough last stretch for Liberty as they end the season with three straight losses. The Flames will wait for their fate in the bowl season.

Liberty redshirt freshman WR CJ Daniels caught seven passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns in Liberty’s 35-26 win over North Texas on Saturday.
Daniels (6'1/195) found the end zone twice in this one, first on a 39-yard touchdown pass from backup quarterback Johnathan Bennett in the second quarter, and then again on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Malik Willis in the third quarter as Liberty attempted to rally from a 12-point deficit. This was Daniels’ best game of his career, as he eclipsed 100+ receiving yards for the first time on the season, and caught a season-high seven passes. Liberty plays host to UMass in Week 9 on Saturday.

Liberty redshirt freshman CJ Daniels caught four passes for 86 yards and a touchdown in a 24-21 loss to Syracuse Friday night.
Daniels (6'1/195) continued the momentum from his strong performance last week against Old Dominion. After catching only 11 passes last season, Daniels is proving himself to be a great running mate for Demario Douglas. Liberty plays at UAB next Saturday which is shaping up to be a high-scoring affair.

  • LA Wide Receiver
Liberty redshirt freshman WR CJ Daniels scored twice while picking up 70 yards on five catches in a 45-17 clobbering of Old Dominion on Saturday.
Daniels caught two of the four touchdown passes from Malik Willis, with Kevin Shaa procuring the other two scores. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound wideout was an afterthought in the first two games with all of two catches for 21 yards, but was a big part of the game plan against the Monarchs on Saturday. It’ll be interesting to see if Daniels gets as many looks next week against Syracuse.

Liberty freshman WR CJ Daniels (knee) is currently dealing with a sprained MCL.
Liberty HC Hugh Freeze did not announce anything regarding Daniels’ (6'1/195) status for the Flames’ season opener against Western Kentucky (September 19). DJ Stubbs and Noah Frith are expected to be two of Liberty’s top wide receivers this season, but there’s room for a player like Daniels to make plays as the Flames will need to account for the loss of last year’s leading receiver, Antonio Gandy-Golden.
