  • PIT Quarterback
Steelers signed UCF QB John Rhys Plumlee.
Plumlee (6’0/200) threw for 4,857-29-16 in his two seasons at UCF but was a dual threat at the position who added another 1,367 yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground. Plumlee’s accuracy, particularly on intermediate and deep throws, took a nice leap from 2022 to 2023, and his ADOT (10.2) and YPA (8.9) saw improvement as a result. He also cut down on his sack total in a big way. His 36.5 inch vertical and 10’4” inch broad jump at UCF’s Pro Day would have been tops amongst NFL Combine participants, and be blazed a 4.53 40 at his pro day. Plumlee threw 16 interceptions and put the ball on the ground 15 times in his two years as a starter for the Knights, and he’s a bit on the small side for a quarterback. His athleticism could help create additional opportunities for him beyond the quarterback position. As of his signing, what position he will play in Pittsburgh is unclear. He could ultimately move to receiver, a position of need for the Steelers, on his new team.
  • JAX Quarterback #18
Former Ole Miss junior WR John Rhys Plumlee has transferred to UCF.
Rhys Plumlee (6'0/200) played wide receiver for Ole Miss last season, totaling 18 receptions for 200 yards and no touchdowns on the year. Now, heading to UCF as a former wide receiver, Rhys Plumlee will look to play quarterback for the Knights heading into 2022. Rhy Plumlee was a member of the 2019 recruiting class, and regarded as a four-star dual threat quarterback according to 247Sports’ composite rankings, placing as the no. 14 dual threat quarterback in his class. Now, he will get a chance to show his chops at quarterback, where he has seen limited action, totaling 981 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 53.8% of his passes.

Ole Miss junior WR John Rhys Plumlee has entered the transfer portal.
Plumlee (6'0"/200) has done a little bit of everything on offense for the Rebels, throwing for 981 yards, rushing for over 1000 and catching 24 passes for 279 yards in his career. The versatile weapon will look for a new place to continue his career, with UCF being a popular candidate. Plumlee also played baseball for the Rebels.

  • JAX Quarterback #18
Ole Miss sophomore John Rhys Plumlee has officially moved from quarterback to wide receiver.
With Matt Corral firmly entrenched as the starting quarterback, there were two options available to Plumlee (6'0/200). One was to remain with the quarterbacks, backing up Corral, with the other being a full-time move to wide receiver. On Monday, HC Lane Kiffin stated that the sophomore is now a wide receiver, which will give him a quicker path to consistent playing time. Plumlee caught five passes for 73 yards during Ole Miss’ bowl win over Indiana.

Ole Miss HC Lane Kiffin said that the team does not yet know how they will employ sophomore QB John Rhys Plumlee this fall.
Matt Corral is already locked in as starting quarterback, leaving two possible options for Plumlee -- either he will handle backup duties at signal-caller or he will be shifted over to wide receiver. The 6-foot, 200-pounder put in a cameo appearance out of the slot during Ole Miss’ bowl win versus Indiana this winter, logging five catches for 73 yards in the process. While the Rebs could shift him to receiver permanently -- he is a dynamic runner with the ball in his hands -- Ole Miss is thin on proven quarterback depth and Plumlee has prior starting experience from 2019. The sophomore’s role figures to clarify in preseason camp.

AL.com’s Matt Zenitz reports that Ole Miss sophomore QB John Rhys Plumlee will back up redshirt sophomore Matt Corral in Saturday’s game against Florida.
Plumlee (6'0/192) battled down to the wire with Corral, but looks as though the sophomore won’t be taking opening snaps versus the Gators. That said, Plumlee showed off incredibly well as a rusher last season and depending on the flow of Saturday’s contest, we would not be stunned if he ended up seeing real run. He worked as a full starter last season after Corral went down with injury four games into the campaign.

Ole Miss sophomore QB John Rhys Plumlee split first- and second-team reps with sophomore Matt Corral in the team’s first practice on Monday.
Plumlee (6'0/192) did not begin the 2019 campaign as starter, but after Corral went down injured four games into the season, the sophomore signal-caller took over and didn’t look back. A phenomenal rushing threat, Plumlee finished the season with 1,023 yards on the ground to go with 12 rushing touchdowns. He proved far more raw as a passer, completing just a touch over 52 percent of his attempts while putting up a 4/3 TD/INT ratio. For his part, Corral doesn’t offer any real sort of threat as a runner, but is further along in his passing development. Ole Miss HC Lane Kiffin declined to put a timetable out for naming a starter, but said that he expects the decision will probably come later down the road, rather than in the immediate future.

Ole Miss freshman QB John Rhys Plumlee completed 9-of-14 passes for 121 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Thursday’s 21-20 loss at Mississippi State.
Plumlee (6'0/192) split the reps under center, with redshirt freshman QB Matt Corral getting the ball in the final ticks of regulation. Corral tossed what appeared to be the game-tying touchdown with :04, but the Rebels missed the PAT. Neither Corral nor Plumlee lit it up offensively, but the latter did run for a touchdown, too. Plumlee ended up 910 passing yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions while also running for 1,023 yards and 12 touchdowns. It looks like the future is Plumlee in Oxford, which might leave Corral searching his options in the offseason.

Ole Miss freshman QB John Rhys Plumlee completed 9-of-16 passes for 123 yards with an interception and ran for 212 yards and four touchdowns in a 58-37 loss on Saturday to LSU.
John Rhys Plumlee is really, really fast. That could be the end of this update, but we’ll continue. The 6-foot, 177-pound dual-threat didn’t have a ton of success throwing the football on Saturday, but once he took off, there weren’t many instances of the LSU defense catching him. Keep in mind that this is a freshman, and it’s certainly not a question of arm talent with the dual-sport (baseball) athlete. The future is very, very bright for Plumlee; there are just some things that need to get better to compete with teams like this. Ole Miss is eliminated from bowl contention, and they’ll take on Mississippi State on Thanksgiving in their season finale.

Ole Miss freshman QB John Rhys Plumlee completed 11-of-17 passes for 124 yards while rushing for 177 yards and two touchdowns on 12 attempts in Saturday’s 41-3 win over New Mexico State.
Plumlee (6'0/192) was not ripping it up as a passer in this one, but New Mexico State had real issue containing him as a runner. Like real issue. He scored on a two-yard rush in the second quarter and an 18-yard run in the third quarter, at one point ripping off a 75-yard run to boot (though no touchdown on that one). This was Plumlee’s third game over 100 yards rushing this season. The Rebs will tango with LSU (gulp) next weekend.
