    Saints released RB Cam Akers.
Akers and Kendre Miller battled for position this preseason, and Akers ended up being the odd man out. The Saints also waived P James Burnip, WR Roderick Daniels Jr., WR Moochie Dixon, DL Jasheen Davis, DE Jeremiah Martin, DE Omari Thomas, OT Josiah Ezirimand, OT Jonathan Mendoza, TE Seth Green, OG Kyle Hergel and Tyreem Powell, and released TE Michael Jacobson and OL Mike Panasiuk.
  • FA Wide Receiver #84
Former Texas redshirt sophomore WR Kelvontay Dixon commits to #SMU.
The Mustangs bested Auburn and Texas Tech for the pledge of the former four-star recruit. Dixon posted a mere three receptions for 76 yards and a touchdown over his two active years on the roster. SMU was looking for pass-catchers after losing WRs Danny Gray and Reggie Roberson Jr., and TE Grant Calcaterra, to the NFL. The 6-foot, 182-pound Dixon has three years of eligibility remaining.

  • FA Wide Receiver #84
Texas redshirt freshman Kelvontay Dixon is set see an increased role in the offense.
With wideout Jordan Whittington (collarbone) out for the remainder of the regular season, this means every other receiver will get more involved. Marcus Washington is set to take Whittington’s starting spot, but head coach Steve Sarkisian said this week Dixon (6'0"/179) will see an increased role as well. He currently has just three catches for 48 yards this season and has not recorded a catch in three games. Texas will host No. 12 Oklahoma State this Saturday.
