Patriots signed San Diego State LB Kyahva Tezino.
Tezino was outstanding over the last two years with the Aztecs, and he followed up a 127-tackle, 10-5 sack season in 2018 with 99 and 3.5 -- adding two interceptions for good measure. Dane Brugler of The Athletic ranked Tezino as one of the top undrafted players on his board, noting his play speed but also citing that the missed tackles “stood out.” Still, based on his production for San Diego State, you can’t help but be intrigued by what Tezino could do in a Bill Belichick defense.

San Diego State redshirt senior LB Kyahva Tezino has accepted his invite to play in the East/West Shrine Bowl.
Tezino (6'0/230) leads the stout SDSU defense with 89 tackles, 38 solo, three sacks and an interception. Tezino was a first-team All MWC performer in 2018, racking up 127 tackles as a junior. Last week’s weather affected loss to Hawaii unfortunately cost them the MWC West Division title. Tezino will play the last home game of his career this Saturday when SDSU hosts BYU. He projects as a UDFA/last round flyer for draft day, as a good Shrine Bowl showing could help boost his profile.

San Diego State redshirt senior EDGE Kyahva Tezino led Mountian West linebackers in defensive stops.
And it wasn’t even close. Tezino (6'0/230) made 74 defensive stops and the second-place finisher David Woodward (Utah State) had 55, according to Pro Football Focus. The redshirt senior will need another big year to earn a Combine invite and he’ll need to overcome “tweener” status to hear his name drafted in 2020. Consider Tezino a UDFA prospect with some pass-rushing and run defense skills.

Matthew Kenerly of Mountain West Wire lists San Diego State senior EDGE Kyahva Tezino as the top draft prospect on the Aztecs for 2020.
Tezino was very productive over his junior year with the Aztecs, picking up 14.5 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks in 2018. The concern here is with Tezino’s size, as he’s listed at 6-foot, 230-pounds, and Kenerly worries that scouts are going to view him as a “tweener.” Still, if Tezino can match that production in 2019, it’s not hard at all to imagine a team takes a chance on him. Getting to the quarterback always has been -- and always will be -- something teams value.
