Yesterday, Arkansas’ Hunter Henry jumped from second-team All-SEC to first-team. Today, he’s jumped to the head of the line at his position nationally.
The Friends of John Mackey announced Wednesday Hunter is the 2015 Mackey Award recipient. The Mackey, given out annually since 2000, is awarded to the country’s top tight end and is named in honor of the former Syracuse standout and NFL Hall of Famer.
Hunter beat out his fellow finalists Austin Hooper (Stanford) and Jordan Leggett (Clemson).
With Henry’s selection, the Razorbacks became the first school to have multiple winners. D.J. Williams took home the 2010 Mackey trophy.
In 2015, Hunter led all SEC tight ends with 46 receptions and 647 yards. Those totals were seventh and second, respectively, among all FBS tight ends. According to the Mackey press release, the junior didn’t drop a pass all season.
