Another Division I-A coaching vacancy has been filled, as Army today announced the hiring of former Cal-Poly coach Rich Ellerson."One of our primary goals of the search was to find someone capable of turning around our program immediately and we are confident Rich is the perfect individual to accomplish that,” Army athletic director Kevin Anderson said in a statement.Army says it hired Ellerson in large part because of his knowledge of the triple option, which school officials think is essential to winning against other I-A schools, almost all of which have better athletes.Ellerson was 56-34 in eight seasons at Cal Poly and took the school to the I-AA playoffs four times.
