BYU, Georgia Tech agree to future four-game series

In the two months or so since word of BYU going the football independent route first surfaced, the Cougars have added future series or one-off neutral site games with the likes of Texas, Utah, West Virginia and Central Florida.

Today, the Mormon school has dipped into the ACC ranks for yet another series with a name football program.

BYU and Georgia Tech announced Monday afternoon that they have reached an agreement on a four game series. The teams will meet each year between 2012-2014, and then again in 2017.

The Yellow Jackets and Cougars will play in 2012 and 2014 in Atlanta. In 2013 and 2017, Tech will travel to Provo, Utah.

“The addition of Brigham Young to our future football schedules helps ensure that Georgia Tech will continue to play quality non-conference opponents,” Yellow Jacket athletic director Dan Radakovich said. “With its strong tradition and history, BYU is a good fit for us.”

“This should be a great series for our football program,” said BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe. “As we fill our schedules for the coming years, we want to play storied football programs like Georgia Tech. It is a great opportunity for Cougar fans in the Southeast to see our football team play.”

The two schools have met on the gridiron twice, with Georgia Tech winning in 2002 and BYU winning in 2003.
