What was described as a personal issue kept starting defensive tackle Casey Walker out of Oklahoma’s season-opening win.
A person very close to the defensive lineman has hinted that a return is imminent. And, as it turns out, the football program has confirmed as much.
“He is great,” Natalie Pipken, Walker’s mother, told the Daily Oklahoman Tuesday night. “He is coming back. He’ll be back on the team.”
Wednesday, head coach Bob Stoops confirmed as much, saying that Walker will return to the team Monday.
With a game on tap for Saturday against FCS-level program Florida A&M, Walker’s presence is not imperative. However, OU opens Big 12 play the following weekend vs. Kansas State, and his on-field presence would help the Sooners’ line tremendously.
It appears that help could very well be in the offing.
“But I’d anticipate he would,” Stoops said when asked about Walker being available for the conference opener a week from Saturday. “Hasn’t been gone that long.”
Last season, Walker started eight games for the Sooners.
