CHOW HUGE PART OF UCLA RECRUITING CLASS

When Norm Chow decided to return to college football and coach the crosstown rival of his former employer USC, many thought that his new job as offensive coordinator at UCLA built in some flexibility on recruiting. One of the long standing knocks on Chow, who many proclaim an offensive genius, was his lack of enthusiasm and general disdain for recruiting. That doesn’t seem to be the case this year for UCLA.Chow, a Hawaii native and still a reveered figure on the island, was an integral part of UCLA’s recruiting efforts, and one of the big reasons UCLA landed offensive line recruits Eddie Williams, Stan Hasiak, and Xavier Su’a-Filo.One of the best pieces of writing to come out in the post Signing Day flurry has to be Bruce Feldman‘s coverage from the recruiting headquarters in Westwood, where he spent signing day with UCLA’s football staff. His coverage of Chow, who often times is portrayed in the media as quiet and almost reclusive, showed him being one of the keys to UCLA’s breakthrough recruiting class.Between Chow chanting the name of a prized recruit into the phone, or coach Rick Neuheisel‘s infectious optimism, it’s a great look inside the UCLA program and what the chaos of Signing Day is really like.
