Fortunately for the Tigers, the procedure was deemed minor in nature. And shouldn’t have any impact on the 2012 season whatsoever.
In a release, Clemson announced that Andre Ellington underwent minor ankle surgery on Thursday. The procedure had been planned for some time, and was performed to clean up scar tissue on an ankle that had previously undergone surgery.
The bad news is the operation will knock the running back out of Clemson’s spring game Saturday. The good news? Per the school, he should be 100 percent for summer workouts in the next couple of months.
A second-team All-ACC performer in 2011, Ellington led the Tigers with 1,178 yards and 11 touchdowns. Those totals were good for fourth and third in the conference, respectively.
Prior to the deadline for underclassmen to declare for the April NFL draft, Ellington announced that he would be returning to the Tigers for another season.
