COACH BOLTING ‘CANES FOR HUGE COWBOY SCRATCH?

A report on Rival.com‘s CaneSport.com -- Say that three times fast. Inebriated. -- website says Oklahoma State has offered current Miami (Fla.) defensive coordinator Bill Young the same position with the Cowboys. Along with the job offer, the website reported, there would be another very large reason for Young to bolt South Florida.A $700,000 large reason. While the interest in Young on the Cowboys’ part may indeed be real, the financial particulars being tossed around are somewhat unrealistic, The Tulsa World is reporting.According to the newspaper, the coach who formerly held the position in Stillwater -- Tim Beckman, who left for the head-coaching position at Toledo -- earned $303,000 last season. The highest paid assistant on Mike Gundy‘s staff, special teams coordinator Joe DeForest, earned $319,000 in 2008.A source close to the Oklahoma St. program told the paper “there’s no way” the school would pay nearly $400K more for Young than what was paid to the previous coordinator. No one from the school’s athletic department would comment on the Rivals report, the paper said.UPDATE: The Miami Herald spoke with Young about the potential move to Oklahoma State. The coach confirmed he’s a candidate, but said nothing about the monetary issues involved.’'Right now, I’m up in the air,’' the coach told the paper. “I’ve got mixed emotions. My wife’s family is from Oklahoma. Oklahoma State is my alma mater. I will visit with my wife and coach [Randy] Shannon. I’m not sure which way I’m leaning. Coach Shannon is an excellent guy to work for.’'If Young does leave, The Herald reported, current Georgia defensive coordinator Willie Martinez could be his replacement.
