After putting together an impressive performance at the Under Armour All-American game in Orlando, Andrew Trumbetti headed to South Bend to start his career with the Irish. Let’s take a closer look.
Andrew Trumbetti
Demarest (Demarest, NJ)
Measureables: 6-5, 250
Accolades: Under Armour All-American, Rivals 3-Star, 247Sports Composite No. 143 Overall, first-team All-Bergen County from Newark Star-Ledger, USA Today All-USA New Jersey Team
Impressive Offers: Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Michigan State, Penn State, Stanford
Projected Position: Defensive End
Quick Take: High motor kid who is a max effort guy. Could immediately impact the pass rush. How good he can be (or is) is still up for debate, as analyst opinions are mixed. Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports thinks he’s the best player in Notre Dame’s class. Rivals views him as a 3-Star prospect.
Either way, Trumbetti fills a massive need for the Irish and is the type of athlete that could do big things. Brian VanGorder’s system could benefit Trumbetti as well.
What he means to Irish: Enrolling early gives Trumbetti an opportunity to battle for Stephon Tuitt’s vacant defensive end spot. There are a ton of question marks with health issues still surrounding Chase Hounshell and Tony Springmann, and Trumbetti walks in ready to compete with young players like Isaac Rochell and Jacob Matuska, getting a jump start on his classmates
An early Irish target who might be an elite level talent.
Obligatory YouTube highlight clip: Here’s a fancy clip of Trumbetti playing a variety of positions.
