In 2008, Darrell Scott was one of the top recruits in the nation at any position. When the running back signed with Colorado, it was regarded as a huge coup for head coach Dan Hawkins and the Buffaloes.
A year and a half after Scott put pen to his CU Letter of Intent -- and after less than 500 yards rushing and more injuries than touchdowns -- the back announced he was transferring from the program. It was widely believed at the time of the November announcement Scott would join his uncle, Josh Smith, at UCLA.
That widely-held belief, apparently, has not come to fruition.
According to the Tampa Tribune, Scott announced on his Facebook page Monday night that he has received a scholarship offer from South Florida and will continue his collegiate football career with the Bulls.
“Just got a scholly peeps!!!! You’re looking at a Bull now,’' Scott wrote. “USF, here I come baby.”
Scott’s high school coach said he’s not surprised by the move from one coast to the other.
“It makes sense,” Todd Therrien said. “Darrell loved Florida. He grew up some in Tallahassee and was always talking about getting back there. He is more of a Florida guy than a California guy.”
Scott will be forced to sit out the 2010 season to satisfy the NCAA’s transfer rules, but will be a talented piece of USF’s backfield puzzle in 2011.
