Seeing very little opportunity for advancement, a touted member of Illinois’ 2013 recruiting class will apparently seek to continue his playing career elsewhere.
Citing multiple sources close to the Illinois football program, the Champaign News-Gazette is reporting that Aaron Bailey is planning to transfer out of the Illini football program. The News-Gazette stated that head coach Tim Beckman hadn’t responded to repeated attempts for comment, and the school has denied attempts as well.
Bailey came to the Illini with much paper promise, but, for whatever reason, it never panned out on the field.
A four-star member of that year’s class, Bailey was rated as the No. 9 dual-threat quarterback in the country and the No. 5 player at any position in the state of Illinois. He was the highest-rated member of the Illini’s class that year.
During his two seasons in Champaign, he completed 13-of-27 passes for 122 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. His time with the Illini was spent mainly running the football when he did hit the playing field, totaling 52 carries for 203 yards and four touchdowns.
To where Bailey is headed next is unknown. Before signing with Illinois, the 6-2, 220-pound Bailey held offers from, among others, Arizona, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Wisconsin.
