Looking for your feel-good story for today? You’re in luck.
Former Missouri quarterback and New Orleans Saints backup Chase Daniel announced over the weekend that he is establishing the “Chase Daniel Lone Star State Scholarship” for one special little guy on Mizzou’s roster each year. The award can be given to either a different player out of the state of Texas each year, or the same player from Texas for multiple years.
The criteria -- other than state of origin, of course -- hasn’t been fully clarified, but Daniel did mention the goal was “to sort out a kid from the state of Texas each and every year with a high GPA and with good community standing who deserves it.
“It’s just about obviously giving back to the University that made me what I am today. To start something special here.”
Daniel, a Dallas area native, said anyone can give to the endowment scholarship.
“It’s not a five, 10, 12-year deal. It’s a 20, 30, 50-year deal,” Daniel said.
For some players, college is just a three-year requirement until they can get into the NFL. Daniel obviously felt differently about his college experience (he was at the KU-Mizzou basketball game when he made the announcement), and it’s great to see him want to give back. I also think it says a lot about coach Gary Pinkel and what he’s meant to the program and the players.
Well done, Chase. Well done.
