The worst fears for Texas about the injury to senior running back Fozzy Whittaker have come true, and unfortunately, it means season-ending surgery for a player who has battled injuries throughout much of his collegiate career.
Texas confirmed this evening in a release that Whittaker has both a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee that will end his season. Whittaker, a senior, suffered the injury in the first quarter of a 17-5 loss to Missouri. He was fourth on the team with 386 yards and 6 rushing touchdowns this season, but provided a spark on offense and in special teams.
It’s a tough blow for Whittaker, who has been a great team player for the Longhorns but just hasn’t been able to stay healthy.
It’s been a bad day for Big 12 running backs in general. Earlier, Missouri confirmed that Henry Josey was also done for the season after tearing his ACL and MCL during yesterday’s game.
