Here’s how the top Heisman candidates fared this weekend:
Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State -- 19 of 21 for 277 yards, 2 TDs, 0 interceptions, in a 59-3 win over Syracuse.
The redshirt freshman had a great game against the Orange and maintained his status as the (tentative) Heisman front runner.
Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor -- 17 of 31 for 335 yards, 3 TDs, 2 rushing TDs, in a 63-34 win over Texas Tech.
Petty put up five total touchdowns for the second-straight week and gained strength in the Heisman race as a result. A big game against OSU looms next week.
Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon -- 19 of 27 for 288 yards, 3 TDs, 0 interceptions in a 44-21 win over Utah.
Mariota benefitted from a quality outing, plus he earned a likely bid in the Pac-12 title game as a result of USC’s win over Stanford. That’s another game for him to improve his numbers and impress voters.
AJ McCarron, QB, Alabama -- 18 of 32 for 187 yards, 2 TDs, 2 interceptions in a 20-7 win over Mississippi State.
He needed a big game to gain momentum heading into next week’s game against Chattanooga. He didn’t get it.
How the vote would go if it was held today:
1. Winston
2. Johnn Manziel
3. Petty
4. Mariota
5. McCarron
6. Jordan Lynch
7. Teddy Bridgewater
8. Andre Williams
9. Braxton Miller
10. Derek Carr
