The NCAA turned down Cincinnati quarterback Ben Mauk for the fourth time today, dealing another blow to his seemingly endless quest to get another year of college eligibility.Mauk’s case is that he should get an extra season of eligibility because injuries cost him significant playing time both at Cincinnati and at Wake Forest, where he began his college career. So far, the NCAA hasn’t been convinced. The NCAA’s reinstatement committee has agreed to a phone conference with Mauk on Thursday in which he will have one final chance. Cincinnati also begins its season on Thursday; even if Mauk wins, by now his team has moved on without him.
