Notre Dame QB Andrew Hendrix asks for his release

Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly said on Tuesday that Irish quarterback Andrew Hendrix has asked for a release from his scholarship.

No word yet on where Hendrix might end up, but since he has already graduated from Notre Dame, he’ll be able to play immediately under the graduate transfer rule.

Hendrix had a checkered career for the Irish. Two years ago, he was considered a front runner to win the starting quarterback job, but he never showed consistent improvement as a passer. He went 25 of 58 for 360 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in his career.

With Hendrix leaving, that clears the decks for Everett Golson and Malik Zaire to be the top two quarterbacks for the Irish in 2014.
