Oklahoma State backup QB reportedly moving on to Division II ranks

Oklahoma State will be down a man at the quarterback position this fall.

According to a report from the Tulsa World citing sources close to the situation, Cowboys backup quarterback Johnny Deaton is expected to move on from Oklahoma State to Northeastern State.

Because Northeastern State is a Division II program, Deaton will be able to play immediately and have three years of eligibility left. Last season Deaton was the third-string quarterback for the Cowboys, completing just one pass for six yards in OSU’s game against Washington State.

Deaton’s reported departure leaves three scholarship quarterbacks on OSU’s roster -- returning starter Brandon Weeden, sophomore Clint Chelf and incoming freshman J.W. Walsh.
