OU WR John Humphrey opts for transfer from Sooners

A player who some thought had the requisite skills to contribute at Oklahoma in 2016 has instead decided to take his talents to somewhere other than Norman.

In a tweet posted to his personal Twitter account Wednesday, John Humphrey announced that, after consulting with his family and his pastor, it’s been decided “it will be in my best interest to take my talents elsewhere.” No reason was given for the decision, although there could be non-football considerations involved.

John Humphrey is a truly great kid. My guess is it probably has something to do with desire to be more involved in track and field.

Humphrey was a three-star member of OU’s 2015 recruiting class, rated as the No. 61 wide receiver in the country and the No. 67 player at any position in the state of Texas. While he took a redshirt as a true freshman, the 5-11, 169-pound receiver was named as the Sooners’ Scout Team Offensive Player of the Year.
