Pilfering Irish: Kelly rips three-star QB from Cincy

For the first time since taking over at Notre Dame, head coach Brian Kelly has swiped a verbal commitment from a recruit who was committed to his old school.

According to both the Cincinnati Enquirer and Rivals.com, quarterback Luke Massa, who committed to Cincinnati while Kelly was still the Bearcats’ head coach, has now flipped his verbal to the Irish three days ahead of signing day.

“I picked ND because I believe in coach Kelly and his whole staff,” Massa told Rivals’ Notre Dame website, IrishIllustrated.com. “I also love the tradition, the environment and the Catholic education.”

The 6-4, 205-pound high schooler from Cincinnati is a three-star prospect and the No. 28 pro-style QB in the country according to Rivals.

Massa is the third recruit to decommit from Cincinnati since Kelly departed, joining defensive end Jibreel Black (Michigan) and wide receiver Tre Boston (North Carolina). He’s also the third player at the QB position to commit to Kelly’s first Irish recruiting class.
