Rutgers vs. Iowa State
Dec. 30, 3:20 p.m. ET, ESPN
At New York City
Football on a wintery baseball field, during basketball season.
It all makes fabulous sense when the venue is glorious Yankee Stadium and one of the teams taking part is Rutgers (8-4).
As we all know by now, the road to the BCS title game goes through Ames, Iowa. Less publicized is the fact that Iowa State (6-6) visited Connecticut on Sept. 16, and took home a 24-20 victory.
At the end of the season, the Scarlet Knights went to that very same Rentschler Field with a shot to grab a share of the Big East title and failed miserably, turning the football over six times in a 40-22 loss.
If you go by the oddsmakers, the Cyclones were supposed to be 2-10. We’re understandably big fans of head coach Paul Rhodes, who ought to nab his second postseason victory in his three-year stint. Amazing stuff.
Opening point spread: Rutgers by 2
The pick: Iowa State 26-23
