The first-ever Big Ten football championship game, as previously announced, will be held at Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium.
Today, we learn that (warning: shocking development ahead!) the home of the Indianapolis Colts will be the home of the Big Ten title game for the foreseeable future as well.
According to WISH-TV in Indy, Indianapolis has been awarded the rights to host the Big Ten title game through the 2015 season. The conference, as of this posting, has yet to confirm the report.
It was reported last week that Big Ten chancellors and presidents were meeting this weekend and could conduct a vote on future title game sites. Indianapolis and Chicago’s Soldier Field were the only cities invited to make a formal presentation to the conference last month.
Obviously, and if this report is accurate, we’ll bring reactions either in this post or another when/if the Big Ten makes it officially official.
UPDATED 5:18 p.m. ET: The Big Ten has confirmed the Indy station’s report via a press release.
