Starting safety abruptly bolts Wyoming

With just a couple of games left in the 2013 regular season, Wyoming finds itself with an unexpected hole in its secondary.

The school announced Thursday that junior Chad Reese has decided to leave the Cowboys football program. “Personal reasons” were cited as the reason behind the departure.

“I’m very thankful to the coaches that have helped me along this journey,” Reese began in a series of tweets posted to Twitter. “First off, I would like to thank God for the opportunity to attend the Univ. of Wyoming. I also would like to say I’m very proud to have played with a great group of young men and even better friends. ... I also want to thank my coaches for allowing me to grow and aiding in my maturation process. I wish my teammates and brothers the best of luck this weekend and in the future.”

Reese had started the past two games and was listed as a starting safety on the depth chart heading into the Hawaii game this week. In 2012, Reese tied for the team lead in interceptions with three.
