Texas-Notre Dame series is official

A rumored series that would pit two of the three winningest programs in college football history has come to fruition, Texas confirmed this afternoon.

Texas will play at Notre Dame to presumably open the 2015 season on Sept. 5, and will also travel to South Bend in 2020. The Irish will travel to face the Longhorns on Sept 3, 2016, and on an unspecified date in 2019.

“I love college football history, and nobody has more historical programs than Texas and Notre Dame,” UT head coach Mack Brown said in a statement Thursday. “The renewal of this rivalry should be a lot of fun to be a part of and something that college football fans across the country can really enjoy.”

In keeping with their longstanding tradition of announcing complete schedules and not individual series, the Irish had no comment on the news that Texas has already commented on and confirmed.

Texas and Notre Dame are No. 2 and 3 behind Michigan in all-time with 845 and 837, respectively.

Notre Dame leads the all-time series with Texas 8-2, although the two schools have not met since 1995.
