Late last night, rumors began bubbling just below the surface that 2011 Alabama signee Dee Hart had sustained a torn ACL during a “voluntary” summer workout.
While, as an Alabama official told us this morning, there’s nothing official, it does appear the running back did sustain some type of injury to the joint recently. The severity, however, remains to be seen.
TideSports.com is reporting that Hart suffered a knee injury Tuesday and will undergo an MRI to determine the extent of the damage. It’s unclear when that MRI will be performed, although a safe assumption would be sooner rather than later.
It’s also unclear how Hart injured the knee; rumor is, though it occurred during seven-on-seven drills.
Hart had originally been a verbal commitment to Michigan, but flipped to Alabama this past january due to the coaching uncertainty in Ann Arbor. The Orlando, Fla., product was an early enrollee and participated in spring practice this year.
As a five-star member of the Tide’s top-five 2011 recruiting class, Hart was rated as the No. 1 all-purpose back in the country by Rivals.com, and the No. 19 player at any position.
UPDATED 2:12 p.m. ET: BamaOnLine.com has an update on Hart’s injury and, if true, is not good news for either the player or the team.
The website also confirmed that the injury occurred during seven-on-seven drills.
