UCLA lost its best offensive lineman on Saturday when guard Xavier Su’a-Filo announced via Twitter that he was bypassing his final year of eligibility to enter the 2014 NFL draft.
Su’a-Filo was a two-time first-team All-Pac-12 selection and the most experienced player on UCLA’s young offensive line.
His leaving for the draft is not a surprise since Su’a-Filo is already 23 years old as the result of his taking two years off for a Mormon mission back in 2010.
The Bruins will miss his athletic ability, but they’ve done a great job of stockpiling line talent in recent years. Many true freshmen gained valuable experience in 2013, so there should be no shortage of available linemen to take his place.
