Oh, those wacky college students and the way their school spirit comes out in the most vandalizing ways.
The UCLA campus awoke this morning to a reminder generously slathered all over the statue of the Bruin mascot exactly what week it is -- it’s Southern Cal week.
According to multiple reports, the statue was covered in a gold -- or yellow, based on the picture, but still close enough to drive home the point -- and red paint job, the victim of a “prank” that’s now being treated as felony vandalism. Red and gold also happens to be the school colors of the Trojans, so that should be a big clue for detectives as they attempt to solve this wacky caper.
It’s believed the future artists struck at some point between 10 p.m. Los Angeles time last night and 6 a.m. this morning. The statue had been covered by a tarp, but the paint commandos apparently cut through it to fulfill their call of duty.
According to the LA Times, students at USC have been guarding Tommy Trojan in shifts. Suffice to say, the same precautions will be taken at the site of the Bruin paint job.
