USF Bulls lose another veteran back

Back in late February, senior running back Mike Ford was dismissed from the South Florida football program for violating unspecified team rules.

While it’s not exactly a “dismissal”, the Bulls Tuesday lost yet another veteran back.

According to Greg Auman of the St. Petersburg Times, senior RB Jamar Taylor (no relation) is no longer a member of USF’s football program. No reason was given for his departure, although he did not participate in spring practice in order to concentrate on academics.

A knee injury forced Taylor, who transferred to USF after Nick Saban took over at Alabama, to miss most of the 2009 season, and he finishes his USF career with 477 yards and five touchdowns.

As noted by Auman, new head coach Skip Holtz will have sixth-year senior Mo Plancher -- the leading rusher among Bull RBs last year -- as his starter, and a whole lot of inexperienced talent behind him. Sophomore Demetris Murray (14 carries, 77 yards in ’09) is Planchar’s backup, while redshirt freshman Bradley Battles and walk-on Joel Miller provide young, unproven depth.
