Violation of team rules, academic woes affect five from Colorado State

Already expected to finish somewhere in the middle-to-lower part of the Mountain West Conference, Colorado State has officially taken a rather significant blow to its depth chart.

In announcement prior to the Rams’ Saturday scrimmage, coach Steve Fairchild said that five players are on the receiving end of issues related to either team rules or academics.

The Loveland Reporter-Herald reports that fullback Kivon Cartwright, wide receiver Byron Steele and defensive back Ezra Thompson have violated unspecified team rules and will be suspended indefinitely from game competition this season. They will, however, still practice with the team.

Additionally, offensive lineman Justin Becker and wide receiver Tony Drake have been ruled academically ineligible.

The Rams are coming off a disappointing 3-9 season from a year ago.
