Amidst the notice of five major allegations against its football program, West Virginia has hired alumnus Keli Cunningham to oversee its compliance department.
Since 2004, Cunningham served as the compliance director at Maryland and previously as a compliance assistant for the Big East conference.
Additionally, assistant athletic director Patrick Hairston will assist WVU’s legal department prepare for the university’s meeting with the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions in February.
The Mountaineers have been in a world of hurt since Aug. 5, when the NCAA accused the university of impermissible use of non-coaching staff. The allegations spanned from 2005-09 and included former head coach Rich Rodriguez.
Less than a week after the notice of allegations, West Virginia self-imposed a secondary violation for use of ‘spider pads’ during the first two days of fall camp in which only helmets are allowed.
