You mad? Spurrier cuts short media chat yet again
What in the name of the Ol’ Ball Coach is going on?
In this morning’s Fifth Quarter, we mentioned that Steve Spurrier seemed to channel his inner Lane Kiffin when, after giving an opening statement following the thumping of Missouri, told the assembled media “I don’t need any questions” and abruptly walked out of the post-game presser.
Less than a day later, it was lather, rinse, repeat for the South Carolina head coach when it comes to dealing with the media. During his regularly-scheduled Sunday teleconference, Spurrier gave some opening remarks and then, well...
In a followup tweet, the latter was asked "[w]hat’s got [Spurrier’s] panties in a knot?” “I have no idea,” Kendall wrote. Slater called it "[v]ery odd behavior,” adding that “Spurrier sounded upbeat in his postgame and Sunday opening statements. ... Didn’t sound angry.”
We’ve reached out to South Carolina for a comment on Spurrier’s decision to eschew questions from the media on back-to-back days.
