Phillies prospect infielder Daniel Brito has been cleared by doctors to attend the team’s minor-league spring training.
Brito will reportedly head to the Phillies’ spring training facility in Clearwater, Florida later this week. The 24-year-old infielder collapsed on the field during a July 30 contest with Triple-A Lehigh Valley due to a seizure and internal bleeding. He remained in a coma for a month and underwent two brain surgeries. He resumed swinging a bat, taking ground balls, running and lifting weights earlier this offseason. It’s fantastic news that he’s healthy and appears to be on track to resume his professional career this upcoming season.

Phillies INF prospect Daniel Brito has resumed swinging a bat.
Brito suffered an on-field brain hemorrhage last July while appearing in a game for Triple-A Lehigh Valley. What followed was a month-long coma, two brain surgeries, 59 total days in the hospital, and a drop in weight of nearly 50 pounds. But he is progressing now following many rounds of physical therapy and has hopes of returning to professional baseball at some point in the near future. “I obviously feel grateful that I’m still here,” the 24-year-old infielder told Matt Gelb of The Athletic. “But I know I’m going to play.”
