They needed to cut someone in order to open up a roster spot for Reggie Hern, but Hern will likely meet the same fate once the regular-season tips.

Stockton, the son of Hall-of-Famer John, spent last season in Germany. The Lakers have excess depth at PG (Rajon Rondo, Quinn Cook, Alex Caruso, Avery Bradley) which makes it extremely unlikely that Stockon makes the final 15-man roster.

It’s unclear if there is an NBA out clause in the deal, but the 25-year-old may not get another shot in the NBA for a long time.

He spent the past season in the D-League with the Reno Big Horns after a previous stint with the Kings. We’ll let you know if he pops back up on the NBA radar.

Stockton might be able to get out there for some preseason action, but he’ll assuredly be cut prior to the start of the season.

He was never expected to make the team.

He scrimmaged at practice on Saturday and looked fine. Stockton will likely be charged with handling the ball for the offense, which was a problem for the team on Friday. Expect them to play more under control.

This is the first we’ve heard of an injury to John’s son and it’s unknown if he’ll be able to suit up later in this event. He’s likely headed to the D-League.

The Kings are pretty shorthanded right now and don’t really have a lot to play for, so Stockton could get some decent minutes down the stretch. Having said that, owners in most leagues should use a wait-and-see approach here, as the Kings have just three games left on the schedule. The contract is non-guaranteed beyond this season, so Stockton will have to impress.

His contract isn’t guaranteed for next season, so Stockton will likely have to impress at summer league if he wants to remain a King. In case it isn’t obvious, he isn’t on the fantasy radar for next season.
