Penn State senior DL Derrick Tangelo has opted out of the Outback Bowl to prepare for the 2022 NFL Draft.
Tangelo (6'2/308) becomes yet another key player of Penn State’s defense to opt out of the Outback Bowl, as Tangelo started every game this season for the Lions while totaling 30 tackles, 14 quarterback pressures and one sack on the season. Tangelo transferred to Penn State as a graduate transfer ahead of the 2021 season after spending four years at Duke, and totaled 61 quarterbacks and six sacks in five seasons per Pro Football Focus.

  • Duke junior DT Derrick Tangelo had the second-best run-stop rate in 2018 among returning ACC defensive tackles.
Tangelo (6'2/310) had a mini breakout season as a sophomore last season, putting him on the map as a draft prospect. In 2018, the Duke defensive tackle had a 9.4% run-stop rate, 4.5 tackles for loss, and 46 total tackles. Tangelo should be even more productive moving forward now that he’s established as a full-time player on run-stopping downs.
