Robinson

Robinson was a former All-American at Oklahoma and a fifth-round pick of the Panthers in 2009. He’s done nothing but disappoint so far.

Robinson has the highest profile of the group as a former All-American guard at Oklahoma, where he blocked for Sam Bradford. Reynaud is a return prospect only. Dawson and Afalava are former Colts. Ingram is a long snapper.

Duke Robinson (Oklahoma), Andy Levitre (Oregon State), and Jamon Meredith (South Carolina) are the top guard prospects, although all saw action at tackle in college. Kraig Urbik and Herman Johnson are other first-day options.

Robinson is listed at 6'5/334, but was rumored to balloon much bigger in college. He also struggled with speedy edge rushers when asked to play tackle at OU, but will be protected as a guard in the pros. Robinson joins a good environment to develop his skills in Carolina’s power-blocking system.

Robinson teamed with Vikings rookie Phil Loadholt to give Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops quite possibly the most dominant left side in college football last season. He’ll develop his skills in the Panthers’ power-blocking system while sitting behind Keydrick Vincent and Travelle Wharton.

His college weight issues might’ve had something to do with it. Carolina’s offensive line is nearly as thin as its defensive line, so losing Robinson would sting. He was already perhaps the top backup at both guard spots.

The same injury kept Robinson out of the Senior Bowl. He’ll lift at the Sooners’ Pro Day. Robinson is projected to be drafted in the second round.

The injury isn’t known to be serious. He played in the BCS Championship against Florida. Robinson is the top-rated pure guard in this year’s draft.

Robinson is out for the year after tearing his MCL in training camp, but can serve the suspension on injured reserve. A disappointment to this point in his career, Robinson will be on the bubble for a new coaching staff in 2011.

It was only less than a month ago that the Panthers came out and said they wanted Robinson to win the starting right guard job. The second year player has been a huge disappointment.
