    Patriots FB Eric Kettani has received his early release from the Navy and is free to play football.
    Kettani, 25, has had his football career delayed to this point due to armed-services obligations. A known favorite of Bill Belichick, Kettani has practice squad eligibility if he can’t beat out Spencer Larsen and Tony Fiammetta.

    Kettani was summoned back to the Navy last October after spending the first five weeks of the season on the Patriots’ practice squad. A Bill Belichick favorite, Kettani will vie for a roster spot in camp if he gains Naval clearance.

    They also waived/injured LB Jimmy Kimbrough and CB Richard Crawford, and placed LB Keenan Robinson and rookie SS Phillip Thomas on injured reserve.

    Kettani has bounced around the NFL since going undrafted out of Navy in 2009, spending time with the Patriots and Redskins, and sitting on Kansas City’s 2013 practice squad. He’ll push for a roster spot behind Anthony Sherman in 2014.
